somebody's nobody

the last of the renaissance...

:homo ecce: in & of itself
Born in 1978, Sydney Australia, now calling Melbourne home.
From early in my childhood i had an invested interest in the Arts and creativity. Through-out my primary education, i tapped into a particular pathway of creative initiatives and artistic endeavours.
After Schooling, i furthered study in Visual Arts and Fine Arts in the early 2000's, from which came various methods of expressive avenues, from Street Art, Murals, Exhibitions & Magazine Contributions, all eventually leading to extensive world wide travels. All of which concluded in a few years of living on the street. This all inevitably led to encountering people, cultures, places and ways of living that gradually changed the way I understood the world—and my place within it.

My work has grown from a direct reflection of my childhood, an interest in figurative/portraiture, symblosim, traditional comics, the 1980's and general pop culture. I am currently concentrating on what appears to be true and what might actually be true. Identity, memory, ambition and perception are rarely as we imagine them to be. The person we believe ourselves to be can exist quite differently from the person others see, while the things we spend our lives moving towards can sometimes appear to recede with every step we take.

I have become increasingly interested in this contradiction—not as a problem to be resolved, but as fragments of what makes us whole. We are constructed from experiences, memories, expectations, desires and dichotomys. Some belong to us; others are placed upon us. The expectations of the world become intertwined with what we ask of the world, often so intricately that it becomes difficult to distinguish where one ends and the other begins.

My new work explores this space between the fragments, using my personal psychology of experience as a conjuncture to express my understanding. I consider the individual not as a singular finished identity, but as something assembled and continually rearranged—a hybrid of memory and experience, expectations and dreams, certainty and doubt.

We are never entirely one thing. We are the accumulation of all things we have experienced, everything we have imagined ourselves to be, and everything we are still trying to become. Quite the conundrum.

My work exists within that contradiction: the many fragments that, somehow, in a constant perpetual motion, consistently never become one.
